Not As Planned

Not As Planned

Today ended up veering way off course--I had plans for brunch with Quin, Jeff, and Jeff's visiting friend Calvin, but I awoke this morning feeling completely drained and devoid of energy. I also had plans later on in the day to play 40k with Roscoe, but those also fell through as I lost track of time while painting, and evidently he came up with other plans as well.

After informing Quin I had to cancel, I spent the morning sitting around in bed or at my computer for the most part. Eventually I got it into my head that listening to music would help energize me.

As of late I've been extremely into Apoptygma Berzerk, and have been listening to them at work, at home, on my phone..basically anywhere I have speakers available. I had read that they recently released a new EP, so I looked into it and purchased it on iTunes.

After the first track or two, I was feeling incredibly energized--I could feel the fatigue my cold was causing start to disappear, and my energy returning tenfold. I decided to take the opportunity to do something I really should do more often: Clean.

At first I figured I'd just clean up around my room, empty the trash bin, corral the bottles and cans and take 'em upstairs, and maybe move some things around and clear off my desk. After doing all of that, I was still feeling great so I went across the hall into my hobby room, and decided to do some cleaning in there. It took about 45 minutes to an hour, and I finished just as the last song on the album (Black EP, Vol 2.) ended. It was all very serendipitous.

After crawling under the tables I have set up in the room to grab months and months of ignored trash (the majority of which was not mine, but actually left there by various friends, I'd like to point out… You know who you are!) and sorting all the recyclable items into various boxes, I paused and took a long hard look at the room.

It was then that I decided to queue up more Apoptygma Berzerk (this time their "Rocket Science" album) and set about reorganizing the room. Not much, mind you, mostly just the shelving unit and the tables, and moving stuff from one shelf to a new one I had that was sitting underneath the tables, waiting to be set up.

Now why am I posting all of this information in this one photo you ask? It's simple. I'm still not really done rearranging stuff, and it wouldn't look all that different to anyone familliar with the room, let alone anyone unfamilliar with it. I mostly moved around things to make them more easily accessable from where I sit while painting/modeling/deckbuilding/playing 40k/Magic, because as I had it set up, I was constantly having to balance things atop other things in a pile beside me, as I simply hadn't gotten around to setting up the aforementioned shelf.

So.. when all the work in the room is done--and when some of my future decor that's in the mail arrives, and I have a chance to set it up and all--I'll take some photos that will interest next to no one, and post 'em on my blog that next to no one reads.

Why will I do it? Because I absolutely love to, and because I also post the photos on Flickr, and I know people see 'em there. (Along with these long-winded posts.)

Anyway I'm now at the point where I'm going to detail what's actually in the picture, which... I could've done in the first place, but opted not to. Seen here is actually the bottom shelf of the two-shelf rolling cart I set up to put Shenandoah (my Macbook Pro) on, and to line up my Magic binders, various rulebooks and 40k codices on.

Left to right you'll see: An empty binder. Used to be my trade binder, but that's in my Magic bag alongside my Mythic binder. I'd put them on that shelf, but I'm certain I'd just find myself shoving them back in the bag every week anyway.

After that binder there's another binder, filled with commons and uncommons, mostly nonbasic lands and other mana fixers, but also just some uncommons that found their way into the back of it.

Another binder follows that one, with my Non-Trader rares, mythics, uncommons, commons… you get the idea. This binder is comprised primarily of my set of Planeswalkers that aren't for trade (I've got every non-Innistrad one, you know), some mythics and rares that aren't for trade, either because I have plans for them or because the story/lore/art/flavour of the card is too awesome to part with.

That binder also features my rare/mythic French-language Magic collection that isn't in decks. There's a box out of the shot that contains my French commons/uncommons. Finally the binder (a lot for such a small binder, eh?) also contains future deck ideas, which are anywhere from missing a few cards, to just being combos without decks built around them.

After that there's an AD&D 2nd Ed. Player's Handbook. I bought it because Neil and Roscoe said they wanted to start playing AD&D, but shortly after it arrived I realized they weren't actually going to go through with it for reasons I still don

Traditional Red Sangria

Traditional Red Sangria

Lazy Dog Cafe in Orange, CA.

We've somehow started this tradition to end all of our roadtrips at this chain restaurant. I'm not one for chain restaurants, but they have excellent food and great drinks, and I seem to have a craving for their whole wheat pasta salad that won't ever go away. I tend to order something simple like an Old Fashioned, because I don't like the silly glasses they tend to put their "specialty drinks" in.

Here's the big wrap-up for my Anza-Borrego weekend: I will admit I am "spoiled," because I experienced the grand awesomeness that was Death Valley, and everything just simply pales in comparison. I had fun, and it was good to explore another part of California desert I hadn't experienced yet.

I don't think I'll plan annual visits to Anza like I do for Death Valley and Joshua Tree, but I believe I'll return one of these days.

I didn't take as many pictures as I normally do, but I chalk that up to me not being as motivated to take pictures in general these days.

We ended up passing through Julian on the way out, and I realized as we left I didn't take a single photo. Oops. The crumb apple pie at Apple Alley (with cinnamon ice cream) is heaven. I had to buy a whole pie to take home with me.
